“There was a man named Paddy Walsh long ago who sold needles and thread...”
Eileen Quinlan. Bawnard. Clonmel.
My father Patrick Quinlan told me this story.
There was a man named Paddy Walsh long ago who sold needles and thread. The people called him "Paddy the Pedler."
He had an ass and car. He went around to every house looking for rags, and bones. Then he gave needles, and thread, instead.
He brought the rags, and bones, to some town and sold them. He got lodging from the people as he went round.
There were also two old women who came out from town with two bags of bread to sell. The people called them Joh-hanna the bread women.
These women were very poor.(gan teideal)
“There is a fort in Mr King's land...”
Nora Burke. Newtown Anner.
My father Patrick Burke told me this.
There is a fort in Mr King's land. His land is in Ballvnavin. The fort is called a Rath. It is covered with trees and bushes. There is one spot where it is very green. It is said that fairies danced there long ago. There is a white-thorn bush in it and nobody ever cut it.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
