   Cáirbre island which lies in Dunmanus bay was a place of great amusement about 40 years ago. All the young people spent the Sunday evenings there at the "pattern" and the following song was composed about it -

   I am a youthful lover that toured this world o'er
   To change my life and get a wife I came to Erin's shore,
   I visited Killarney's lakes where beauties there do smile
   And then I sailed along the bay to Cairbre's Hundred Isles

   When I came to Muinntirabáire's mount My eyes beneath me held
   A lovely little island with its tranquil waves and swells
   The sun from the horizon cast its silvery brilliant rays
   You could see the colleens blouses flutter in the breeze

   I descended on the fairy dell from the summit of the Mount
   I hired a boat and went afloat out from the Holy Ground
   I stepped up to the island with my heart so light and free
   It was there I met my Mollie on the top of Cairbre

   Her cheeks were like the roses red, her eyes wer black as sloes
   And the line of the equator was no straighter than her nose
   I asked her where did she reside, "Dunmanus Sir", said she,
   I there embraced my Mollie on the to of Cairbre
