- Travelling people are more numerous now than ever. They are indeed very poor. Some of them sell linoleum and wicker tables and chairs which they make and as a rule people buy readily from them. Others sell small household requirements as toilet soap, boot laces and odd pieces of china. These travelling families usually have caravans in which they sleep and cook their food in bad weather. On fine days they light fires on the roadside and cook there. Sometimes they remain near here for a few days. They accept money or food of any kind. They generally travel in bands with four or five caravans drawn by horses. The best known of the travellers are Doyles, Delaneys, Murphys and Donovans. They come to this district a few times during the summer and for the coursing match in December.
