I am a roaring hackler that loves the shamrock shore

About fifty years ago there was stationed in Grousehall R.I.C. barracks a very officious sergeant who made himself notorious through the district by his severity. The following song "Jemmy from Grousehall" perpetuates his memory.
    1
I am a roaring hackler that loves the shamrock shore
My name is Pat ODonnell and my age is 84
I'm loved and well respected by my friends and neighbours all.
In sweet Stradone I am well known
    Round Laragh and Grousehall.
    II
When I was young I danced and sung
    And drank good whiskey too.
Each Sheebeen shop that sold a drop
Of the real old mountain dew.
With a poteen till on every hill
    When peelers had no call
On Patrick's Day I'd love to stray
    For pleasure round Grousehall
    III
    It seems quite strange
    How times did change(s)
