  1. Saint Ultan, patron of this parish was born at Ardbraccan in Co Meath about the year 476. Bracan built a monastery here and that is how it got its name. When Bracan died St Ultan was abbot of the monastery. At this time there was a plague in the country and he gathered all the orphans into the monastery and cared for them. There is now a children's hospital in Dublin called St Ultan's hospital.
    Saint Ultan wrote the life of St Brigid and St Colmcille. He had also the gift of prophecy. It is said that he foretold the coming of the Normans. He died about the middle of the seventh century and
