    My father was returning home from Kells about midnight.

    He did as he was told and found the mare grazing on the side of the road a few perches away. She seemed very fatigued and wet with sweat, and was scarcely able to walk home. He always believed that it was the fairies that caused the blast to frighten the mare away to carry the coffin for them. When he reached home he got weak and was sick for a week after.
