  1. Another bad disease is the mumps. It is like a sore throat, and in fact, it is a swelling of the lungs. It generally goes away after a little while but in case of it lingering the ancient cure still holds good: A donkey's halter is put round the sufferer's throat and if he or she is led out to the pigsty three times, saying, while doing so, some words in Irish. That prescription to bring relief very soon.
