The gallery near the old organist who was a bit deaf. Nearing the end of the sermon the preacher shouted in a loud voice "How do ye stand with God?" "What's he said Billy?" said the old lady to my little lad. "Oh," says Billy, with a grin he says "How do ye stand the cold?"

  2. The Wooden Noggin
Long ago people ate porridge and sowens and porridge and butter-milk out of wooden noggins. These were little wooden tubs with one stave longer than the others and a hole in it through which the fingers were put to hold it. The tub or noggin had little iron hands on it to keep it together. Mother was longing for one and her little maid Jane Prieot got her one, she has it among her treasures on the side board. An old lady who lived in the bog at Coohhonan Ballivor had several of them and they were sold at her auction. I wish I had been able to be there ad I'd have loved to get one they fetched 4/- each.
