The shoeing of cart-wheels is done in the open air. It is done in the yards that are attached to the forges. All wheels are shod outside the forges. The iron is heated and then it is taken outside and the wheels are shod.
The sparks that fly from the red-iron are said to be very dangerous. The smiths were always looked upon as being very strong men. The forges are great places for story-telling and news and alot of people attend the forges on winter nights to listen to the stories.
