  1. The Carthy family are well known in this district, in the parish of Kanturk, County Cork. They sell ware and cheap jewellery; and are supplied with food from the houses they visit. They live in a caravan; and are very thankful for clothes, or anything they might get from people.
    There are also families of Coffeys and Sheridans who are not as numerous now as formerly. They visit the district at the time of a fair.
    Two of the better known "travellers", of forty years ago were, "Mary the Goose," who carried all her belongings in a bag on her
