  1. In the district of Kanturk, Co. Cork the old crafts which were carried on were: candle-making, basket-making, forge work, weaving, and thatching.
    I heard people saying that there was a candle factory in Lower Greenane Kanturk, Co Cork. It was there before the houses were built there.
    Mr Sheahan of Upper Greenane, Kanturk, is a basket-maker. He makes them of twigs.
    Michael Kenneally of Upper Greenane, Kanturk, was a weaver.
    The old thatchers were Mr. Hemmington of Dromtariffe, Mr. Murphy of Derrygalon, and Mr. Brosnan of Springrove, Kanturk. The tools that were used were, the bough for holding the reed on the house, a knife, a hand-rake, and a leather strap around the hand.
    There was a tan-yard in Strand
