  1. In Macroom Castle, which is situated in the town, and on the banks of the beautiful river Sullane, some treasure is supposed to be hidden. It was placed there by a chieftain of the district during the plantation days. It was placed there because the English were taking everything from the Irish people and he was afraid that they might take his money. Nothing has ever been found around this district.
