- The birds that are found most frequently in this district of the parish of Kanturk in the Barony of Duhallow, County Cork, are as follows; the robin, sparrow, thrush, blackbird, swallow, cuckoo, corncrake, lark, crow, wren, jackdaw and pigeon.
The swallow, cuckoo, and corncrake all migrate. There is a tradition which says, that when the corncrake is going away it takes a bit of a stick in its bill, and when it gets tired it drops the stick on the sea and rests on it.
