“There was an old man who used to be going around here long ago...”
There was an old man who used to be going around here long ago. His name was Donnchadh Maol. One evening he went into a house where there was a party going on. The people didn't take any notice of him. He sat by the fire and was falling asleep.
"Is é an ceol atá ag cur a' chodla ar an stróinséirí" said someone.
Donnchadh heard what was said. He answered -
"Ní socaireacht ná soilbhreacht ná [?]
Ná fothrom garbh na gcraobh sa amuigh
Do chuir an codla ar Donnchadh Maol anucht
Ach an t ocras do chuir a codla ar an Éireannach."
'Tis the way he was asking for something to eat. The old people used to say that hunger would make an Irishman fall asleep. It would make other people do something different. I forget it, but they has a saying about it.

Aodhagán O Rathaille went into a house somewhere. The people weren't making enough of him. I suppose they didn't know who he was. He wanted to tell them who he was by way no harm. There was a child in the house After some time Aodhagán spoke -
