  1. One evening of late as from Bandon I strayed
Bound for Clonakilty, the best haste that I made
But at Ballinacarthy some time I delayed
And I wetted my whistle with porter.
I reddened my pipe and I spat on my stick
And out the coach road like a deer I did trip
For I cared not for bailiff landlord or Ould Nick
But I sang like a lark in the morning
I scarcely had travelled one mile of the road
    When I heard a dispute in a farmer's abode
The son of the landlord, an ill looking rogue
And the wife of the bold tenant farmer.
He says what the divil's come over ye all
Not a penny of rent we're to get now at all
But after the session ye'll pay for it all
Ye'll get the high road for yer garden
