    In the Penal days,the priests of this parish used to say mass in the mountains in hiding from the English.In the Bragan Mountains on the border of Tyrone and Monaghan,a priest named Fr.McKenna was shot when saying mass.It was a traitor who told the English soldiers where they would find him.
    Priest-hunters in the Monaghan parish were the Hamiltons,who had a castle at Cornacassa,Monaghan.
