    An Old Belief.
In the country districts, when the people are all sitting around the turf fire,if a coal falls it is said there is a stranger coming to the house and if the stranger is not wanted, they spit on the coal.

It is said if a picture falls off the wall without any apparent reason there is bad luck approaching the house.
That if you break a mirror you will have seven years bad luck.
