  1. There was a man named Andrew Plunkett in this district about fifty years ago. He went to a (nabour) neighbour's house to play. cards. He was coming home late one night with the deck of cards in his pocket when he heard chains rattling. He though it better to throw the cards out of his pocket so he put his hand in and took them out. Then the chains stopped rattling but on hearing the dog which was coming to meet him, barking he changed his mind and kept the cards as he was not afraid when he had the dog with him. He got home all right and went to bed. He rose early next morning and went out to throw sods on an ash fire.
    He saw a little man coming across the meadow so he put a coal on his pipe and sat down until he came up. He spoke to the little man and he told him that he was in a tight place last night and that
