They kept on until they were out of the wood, and then they could see the old woman's house.
The little girl was delighted because she was very tired.
Then the little girl carried the sticks up to the old woman's house, and left them down at the door.
The old woman than thanked the kind little girl very much for her kindness, and then she told her that she would get a great surprise before she would be half-way through the wood.
The little girl was afraid because it was getting dark, but then she thought of the fairies and leprechanns and that it was always dark when they were to be seen. So she decided to keep a watchful eye to see if she could find any.
She went on looking here and there when suddenly she heard a noise like the ticking of a watch.
She looked all round her but she could see nothing, and she was just going to start on her way again when she heard someone talking.
