He was born and reared in Aughaloora, and when he grew up he was a school teacher. One day he beat a pupil very severly and he was dismissed and he is ever since wandering.

   A beggar man known as "Innocent Phil" used visit this district occasionally, and his proper name was Philip Brady from Larah. He used lodge in Patrick Byrd's house, and he would sleep on straw in the
