Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The men who have forges in the district are William Chambers Carrickeeshil, Patrick Mc Hugh Straugh, Archie Johnson Billis, and Sam Mc Elwaine Lisnamore. Most of these people's fathers and grandfathers were blacksmiths. William Chambers's forge is situated along the road between the Billis Church and Clanaphilip Chapel, and convenient to the Billis Cross Roads. Patrick Mc Hugh lives along the Straugh road almost two miles from the New Inns Cross. Archie Johnson lives beside the Billis Cross Roads, and Billis Creamery and a river flows convenient to the forge also. The forges are built with stones and mortar and either roofed with thatch or felt. There is a large door in the shape of a horse shoe on the end of the forge and there is also a small door on the side of it. In the forge there is a height of about two feet built of stone and the fire is on top of this. The bellows is fixed in one corner of the forge and it is worked by pulling a chain or by pressing down a piece of a stick or handle. The implements the blacksmith uses are a bellows, an anvil, a vice, a bit and brace a chisel, a punch, a rasp, a cutter, a sledge, a hammer, a pincers, a tongs, a sharp knife for pareing the horses hoofs, nails for
