  1. There is a mass rock in the townland of Waterloo in Patrick Cusack's field about a mile from our school. Standing beside this rock one could get a fine view for miles, so it was not easy easy for soldiers to approach while the Holy Mass was being celebrated. There is a holy well beside this mass rock and it is still visited by people who take away water from it to cure various diseases. A common pin is left beside the well for each bottle of water taken away and the people believe that the healing power of the water is not so good if a pin is not left behind. A wooden cross was erected about twenty years ago to mark the spot where the priest used celebrate mass. An annual pilgrimage used take place to the well, and the rosary used be recited by the curate of the parish in the presence of the assembled multitude. This custom has stopped since Fr. Small the local curate left the parish about twenty one years ago.
