    The famine of 1847 effected this district very much as this country was so thickly populated that (that) the people were all dying with hunger.
    There were two or three families living together in each house.
    A blight came over the potato crop, and the people had no food but Indian meal which was given to them as a relief meal, a bag of meal was sent every three days to the local shopkeeper, and every morning each person went to the shop with a ponger for (their) his share of meal.
    After this famine sickness spread over the country and the grown up people went to foreign countries.
