  1. This happened in Chaple St of Oldcastle on a Wednesday morning at 2-30 in 1935; it started in the drapery store on the ground floor in the house the property of Paddy Lynch Builder Contractor.
The alarm was given by Mr Owen Clarke, Merchant Oldcastle. How it happened that Mr Clarke was on the street at that time was that his bread van which was coming from Drogheada, got broken down on the road and it did not arrive in town until that time fortunately for Mr Lynch and family or every member of the family would have been burned.
