  1. There are four forges in the parish. The names of the smiths are Charles Caffrey, James Kiernan, Mount Nugent, Co. Cavan. Tommy Lynch, Grieve, Tommy Masterson Thonach.
    The Kiernans were blacksmiths for many years. Tommy Lynch is beside a crossroads. The rest are beside streams. Some of them corrugated iron, the others are thatched. There are wide doors on them. There is one fireplace within.
    The smiths have an anvil, vice, hammer, sledge, tongs, pincers, rasp, punch etc. They shoe horses, and asses. Shoeing wheels is done in the open air, beside a river if any.
