Every seven years somebody is drowned in Lough Shellian. Thirty years ago Mae Masterson, Pat Murtha, and Con Cook were out on the ake and Con Cook was drowned.
Sixteen or seventeen years ago, Father Smith was drowned (in) there.
About seven years ago, two boys from Cavan were drowned there, and a man named Gaffney was shot while taking his gun out of a boat.
The Flue empedeming visited this district in 1814. Bad flour caused it. There died a lot of people around Oldcastle.
