  1. Local Fairs
    In Palaine there were two annual fairs Aprl and October. They were held in a small feild known as the green. There were all classes of animals brought to these fairs, Horses and (animals), Donkey had to parade on what was known as the street. All kinds of dealers came to these to sell their wares and cabbage plants etc. When evening came a dance took place which lasted all night. At that time there were two publichouses and a police barricks in Palatine and many a time the police would have to send for extra police men to Carlow to cler the crowds. The "Pal Fair" often ended in a action fight.
