  2. There was an old hedge school on my father's farm in the townland of Busherstown, Parish of Tinryland Co. Carlow. The school was held in a farmer's barn. The schoolmaster that taught was named O'Donovan. The pupils paid 2s6d for every three months as the schoolmaster only came twice a year and stayed three months at each time. He taught Irish, Latin, English and Writing in this school. Slates and chalks were used.
