  1. The following story was told by Tom Canning, Bawn, Drumlish County Longford.
One night in Winter at about 6 o'clock as he himself was returning from his usual work as porter at Longford railway station he had a strange experience.
When he reached the blind bridge in the townland of Kilnashee and parish of Drumlish he saw an enormous dog by the light on his bicycle coming towards and moving directly towards him. To avoid the dog he darted for the other side of the road, and suddenly it seemed to him as if he had run against a big rock. He was pitched off his bicycle, and he fell some yards away from it, and at the same time his bicycle light went out.
He was terribly frightened, however, he got to his feet, and found his bicycle safe notwithstanding the impact. He lit his lamp again and proceeded on his way. He thought it very strange that the dog never growled, or made any sound discernable.
When he reached the next house on his homeward journey, he went in, and related the occurrence. He was afraid to go home then, so some of the members of the family accompanied him to his home.
