  2. There are six thatched houses in my district namely Laurence Gerety's James Gerety's, Hugh Mc Grath's, Nora Mc Grath's, Mary Caffery's and my own house. There are two chimneys on some of them & one on more of them. When the thatcher is going to thatch a new house he puts bundillions between lime & sand at the eave. The thatcher begins thatching at the eave & every three or four yards he would put a scollap in the thatch and drive it drive it down with a mallet. The thatcher uses a mallet a thatching-needle and a knife he cuts the eave with a eave.
