to go off about their business that he had no money for himself. This man lived there the year of the famine. When the food and money was getting scarce he bought a lot of food and hid it in a box in a hole in the ground.
He had plenty of food to eat when everyone else was hungry. Before he died he hid all his gold in the great box in the same place as he hid the food. There is no track of the house there now but there is a small hill and that is the place where the gold is hidden.
There is a black horse guarding it and if anyone went to dig up the gold the horse would trample him to death. This man's name was Mr Nolan.
My Great grandfather was going home one night and he saw the black horse with white eyes. He was lying on the hill. This field is now owned by Miss Boylan Kilmessan and it is part of the land given to her by the Land Commission.
