In my home district, houses were far more numerous in former times. There are many in ruins here in Tullakeel. A great number of people emigrated to America and Australia.
The land in general is hilly and some is boggy, but there is some very good land. There is a fine wood which covers about three acres. It is called Tullakeel wood. Seán the Rambler in his Poetry referred to the townland as "Wooded Tullakeel".
There is a splendid Fox Covert here where the Louth Hounds hunt during the winter months. It provides great sport for the people around. There is a song, too, about this hunt, of which I know only a few lines as follows,-
"The redcoats they were glancing
The nimble steeds were prancing
When Reynard was advancing
For sporting Tullakeel".
