- There are two grave-yards in our Parish. Only one of these is in use now. The old grave-yard is situated in a very secluded little spot on the public road about half a mile from the village of Greenore. It is known locally as the Reilg.
Near by is the famous well of St James, and an old stone work foundation marks the spot where a church once stood dedicated to our local patron saint. Some of the old folk around Cooley remember the time when young babies who died without baptism were buried there.
The grave-yard now in use is known as Kilwirra and is situated in Templetown right in the middle of the Parish. It has been used for centuries and some time ago there was talk of its being closed. The old people were indignant as they would not like to be buried anywhere else. The ruins of the old church are still to be seen in the centre of the grounds.
