- There is an old ruin about 100 yards from where I live. This ruin is in a field which lies along the county road.
In former times a man named Farrell lived in it, and many years after his death the place went into ruins. It is said by the local people around that a cave leads from the spot to Ballagan shore about a mile distant. Whether it was used for smugglers or not in the old days is not quite certain.
Some say it was a hiding place which the local people used during the different wars in Ireland but nothing definite is known. Something interesting will be brought to light some day I hope when this mysterious spot is examined.
My father says that in old times it was opened and that the tunnel as far as could be seen went on in the direction of Ballagan and was probably connected with another old Rath called Cnoc Súgan half way(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
