  1. The Famine is an event that will be always remembered. It was the darkest period in Irish History. It started in the year 1846. Crowds of our Irish people died as a result of it. People were seen dying in crowds by the firesides; others on the side of the road others on the streets and others in the poor-house. Thousands of them died of hunger, but the disease, called Cholera, that came afterwards was worse. The potatoes blackened in the year 1845 but they became blacker in the year 1846.
    During the Famine thousands of the Irish people left Ireland and went across to England and to America but many of them died on the way.
    The people had not any coffins to bury the dead. All they used have was an old bag and they used cover the dead body with it. They had not any priests or bishops to annoint the dying people.
    After the Famine the corn and crops began to grow. There were ships of yellow meal sent from America over to Ireland. But the farmers had to sell their corn and crops to earn the rent of their houses and those who would not pay the rent would be evicted from their homes.
