  1. Long ago there was a lady and gentleman in a pony and trap. It was late at night, and they had only the lights of the lamps to show them their way.
The gentleman was driving the horse, and all of a sudden the horse stopped on the road and would not go another inch. After a while he got down and gave the reins to the lady. He could not see anything wrong, and after a while he walked up the road for about twelve yards. There he saw a man lying across the middle of the road. He was drunk, and fast asleep. He went back to the trap, and got a lamp, and went back to the man, and woke him up, and put him on the side of the road. After that the horse went on his way.
