- Long ago people used not to go to the doctor as often as they go now.
They used to have a cure for a cold, and it was scalded buttermilk. They used to put the buttermilk into a saucepan on the fire until it was nearly boiled. They would take it off them, and put sugar and a lump of butter in it. They would take a drink of it every night going to bed. A spunk leaf steeped in vinegar was supposed to be good for corns.
