- Burns and Scalds :- Get a pound or so of
unsalted lard and put into a small pot or
other vessel over the fire until melted.
Add two or three good handfulls of
laurel leaves and leave until leaves are
thoroughly browned. Add to this a good
teaspoonful of olive oil. When cold
spread on cloth and place on burn or
scald. Over this wrap cotton wool. No
matter how bad the burn may be - it
heals and even a mark is scarcely left
behind.
Warts :- Get a piece of fat bacon,
preferably from a neighbour’s house,
bury it in the dung heap. As the bacon
rots the warts disappear.
A snail rubbed several times on the warts
is also a good cure.
Near here on the roadside there is a
blessed stone containing five circular
holes. People here say if the warts are
rubbed with the water, always even in
summer found in some of the holes, the
warts disappear. Warts are also cured
by washing them with the “Forge
Water”.
Red eyes. Wash eyes in water found in
stone mentioned above nine mornings
in succession and a cure follows. What
are known as “Horse Puffs” found in
fields are also used to cure eyes.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
