   One day in May, I rode a gray,
   To sweet Tipperary races.
   I met a maid upon the road,
   Just nearing old Con Hayes
   The day being fine, the bright sun shine.
   This maid seemed tired from walking
   I asked to step up behind,
   And we'd spend some time in talking.
