- Long ago in the penal days mass was said either in the open air or in special places where a spy would have to keep a watch on the soldiers. A high price was awarded for the person who would capture a priest. If the people attending mass were caught by the soldiers they were either put to death or punished severely. Mass was generally said on Mass rocks in this district.
