- The weather which was there about twenty years ago was worse than it is to day. The winter's were so severe that people had to stay indoors from the cold. Ice used to be in Loughgur lake for nearly a month and often it snowed on top of it. Storms were very numerous during the months of October, November, and December.
One night, a man named Patrick Leo living at Loughgur cross but who is now dead R.I.P went outside to secure the rick of hay from the storm. The wind was was howling frightfully and brambles were blowing every direction. A few of the neighbours came to help him and got ropes to tie it. When they were nearly finished a gush of wind dashed him against, the rick and he would have been carried off but he was stuck fast to it and the rest of his companions did the same
