It gave a lot of labour where nowadays the slated roof will not be in want of repair for a great number of years. - Lime burning was practised in this district and all over the country long ago but nowadays it has almost ceased to exist, because it is only used for building purposes.
Long ago there were lime kilns in every farmer's land as they used lime for agricultural purposes, especially for tillage as artifical manures were unknown.
