  1. My townlands name is Gurthnagranaher which is probably a corruption of gort na greanamair because hurling and football contests were held there long ago. There are three families living in it - O'Halloran, Sheehy and Holland which contain seventeen people.
    The first house is a long, slated house with two floors. The second is a long, thatched house of the old type and the third is a high, slated house with two floors. There are two old women over seventy but they do not speak Irish.
    The houses were more numerous long ago but two now are in ruins. About eleven people emigrated to America. The land is hilly and boggy but still it is good. There is no wood growing on the land. There are alot of rivers and streams and one lake.
    Long ago a poor woman lived in a house near the lake and she had no milk. A cow came out of the lake and said she would give her milk so long as she did not curse. So the woman got milk for a long time but one morning the cow kicked and the woman said 'Bad luck to you! Will you stand up? At that three of the cows calves came, and she roared and the four of them jumped into the lake and were not seen since. There was also a white horse seen but not lately. The lake was
