- There is a fairy fort in the school district. It is in the townland of Temple Athea and there is also a fort in the townland of Coole. They ar within view of each other. They are circular in shape. There is a mound of earth and trees around each with an entrance hole in the centre. It is supposed that the Danes built these forts. It is said they used to go in there when the Irish used to attack them. Fairies are also supposed to live in them. There is a fort at the west of the village of Athea named Banarata it is in the town land of Beenansbug in Buckleys farm and it is said that there is a razor there and if any man shaves himself with it he will get as young as the first day he shaved himself. It is said that a man was passing by a fort in Carrick one night about twelve oclock and an animal like a rabbit ran across his path. When he was going home the next night he met a man carrying a coffin on(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
