Irish was spoken by the master and the pupils. Irish was taught also. The books that were used were English books and Irish books.

- There was a hedge school in our district near the present school. The subjects they taught in them were Irish English Geography and Airthmetic. They used to teach indoors and in the open. The teachers that taught in the schools were Master O Riordan and Master Sheehan. They belonged to the Parish. The school was carried on sometimes in the farmers houses. The Master used to go home with the children in the evening.
