- Long ago there lived an old couple named Paddy and Norah O Kirwan. They had been married for seven years but had no family to claim their property, which consisted of two acres of land, a cow, two goats, and a good store of money. One evening as Paddy was coming home from a neighbours house he met a little grey woman near the churchyard who saluted him very kindly and asked him if there was anything troubling his mind. "Not much" said Paddy, "but I should like to have a son to claim my little holding and to close my eyes when I'm dead." "Your wish will be granted" said the little woman.
