About seventy years ago the neighbours around heard there was gold hidden in a field of Jen Magner's of Shanballymore. All the people were indread to go searching for it because they feared a foxy cat. At last three men said they would chance it. They said if one of them got killed the other two could divide the treasure between them. After drinking a share of porter and whiskey to give them courage and taking a bottle of Holy water with them they started at night for the ould castle. They sprinkled Holy water around a large circle and began to dig with a spade and shovel. Having dug a few feet deep one of them cried "I have it." He had come to a large flag. Just at that moment the cat appeared in a very threatening manner. They couldn't bear the sight of him his appearance was terrifying. Away they went home as fast as they could. A few days after one of the men died maybe with the fright.
