    It is "a sin" to beat a donkey on the cross of his back.
    The house in which the hens are kept is a large building in which there are perches and coobs. There is a large door in the fowl - house and this is a "sliding" in the door to open to give them air. Some fowl - house are divided in two. One division is for the hens and the other for the ducks.
    There are old stories connected with the fowl.
    1. If two hens are fighting it is a sign that a stranger is to come to the house.
    2. If a sop is hanging off a hen's feathers it is the sign of a funeral to the house.
    3. If a hen has a crow in her voice, she is sold and salt is bought with the price of her.
    4. IF the cock - crows it is a sign that someone is dead.
    5. If the cock crows in the morning and if it is raining, it is believed that the evening will clear.
    6. If the ducks are screaming it is a sign that someone is shooting game birds.
    7. A person should never count the chickens in the shells.
    8. If thirteen eggs are put hatching under a hen it is lucky.
    9. If twelve eggs are put hatching under a hen it is unlucky.
