    In ancient Ireland long ago a great many customs were practised on certain days of the year. Some of these old customs still survive.
    On the 6th January the people make twelve rush candles and put on each of them the name of a certain person.Then grease is put on each ruck and the candles are lighted. It is said that the candle that burns out first, that person shall die first. On St. Bridget's day a cross is made of two pieces of straw and hung in a part of the house. It is supposed to keep
