“There is a thatched house in Ballinrally...”
There is a thatched house in Ballinrally. There are five windows in it and each window contains four panes of glass.
When you go in through the door the fireplace is at the right-hand side. Sticks and turf is what is burnt in it.
It is a crane which you can pull in and out is over the fire. It is used for hanging pots on. There is only one hole at the side of the fire and underneath is a hole where ashes is kept. The door is facing towards the south. The rafters in the roof go up in a slant.
There is no loft in the house. The floor is made of flags.
The people that live in it never remember the cattle to be kept in the kitchen.
The length of the house is about 40 feet and it is fifteen feet wide.
